  • De Anza Cove
    • Easy, accessible boat launch. Extremely busy on summer weekends, but weekday evenings you can get some glassy water in this cove.
  • Main Mission Bay
    • Same as above, occasionally you can get some decent water early in the morning or toward evening, but on weekends don’t even bother heading out here…if you don’t get hit by an idiot on a jet ski, you will just regret wasting your gas in chop city.
  • Sail Bay
    • The secret of Mission Bay. During the non-summer months you can ride out here at any time, if its not windy you can get some decent water and good pulls. During the summer its still the best spot, since you are allowed to have wake before 11am and after 5pm. If all you want to do is ride, its best to head out early for a dawn patrol session, then anchor and party and pick back up for a 5-till-sunset huck-fest.
  • Hidden Anchorage
    • Permits are FREE and can be obtained at the Lifeguard Services Building located over at Quivera Ct. The only requirement is that the person requesting the permit must be a member of either US Waterski with a current membership card or a member of the San Diego Mission Bay Boat and Ski Team. Course etiquette is 3 runs or 12 mins and there can only be 4 boats in rotation. Permits are required and checked by the Lifeguards.
  • Coronado Strand Coves
    • Probably the best wakeboard spot in SD. Rarely anyone ever out here, there are a couple coves along the Coronado strand, and they are always good water. Pretty well sheltered from wind, and its awesome to shred with the bridge in the background. Nearby boat launch at Shelter Island.
  • San Vicente Reservoir
    • Although San V shut down on Monday, Sep 1. 2008, it was open thursday-sunday (Thursday is just for fishing however). $10 per boat and $5 per person. Can get some decent water here most of the time, although it gets crowded on nice weekends. There are permit only waterski/wakeboard areas, but you have to get in there early to get the permits. $10 for 6-10, 10-2, 2-6, and they allow 4 boats in each area at a time.
  • El Capitan Reservoir
    • The lake is open for water contact Thursday-Sunday, Sunrise to Sunset. Only the front portion of the lake is open is open for water contact Thursday-Saturday. However, the front portion of the lake is near the designated jet ski area, which can create a good amount of chop. On Sunday the entire lake is open and you can get some good water in the back areas of the lake. It’s $5 per boat and $5 per person. This is actually a pretty cool place to ride…so don’t completely rule it out.
  • Carlsbad Lagoon

    • A great Private place to ride. Check out their link to the left under California Watersports, or KJo’s article about it.
