The 2009 WBSD Kick Off River Trip Was a Success!

Posted on 13 April 2009 by Ian

This is a rough attempt to recount 2 days of shenanigans that occurred throughout last weekend.  We all packed up Thursday night to head out on the first WBSD River Trip to get the summer of 2009 started right.  After pulling out around 5am from Bay Park, we met up with Kelli and Eric in La Mesa and gassed up.  We drove straight to El Centro, where Alison and Hecker met us at Carls Jr.  so we could enjoy some of the best damn breakfast sandwiches known to man – then caravaned to Yuma and stopped to gas up the boat and enjoy the $1.96 per gallon.  Can’t wait for those prices to come back to San Diego!

We got into Squaw lake around 10:30 friday morning, and set up camp:

Then loaded up the boat and the skis, and hit the water!

It was a bit cold with the wind, clouds, lack of sun, and rain, but hey – we were “ON A BOAT”! What could go wrong?

From River April 09

We headed over to clear lake to chill out and drink a few beers, and pretty soon the clouds started rolling in!

Even though it started to rain, we kept drinking and riding, figuring the weather would get better at some point!

(It started getting COLD!)

We stopped back at camp for lunch, then loaded up again for a nice cruise up river (this time with warmer clothes). Kelli warmed up next to a couple of hot dudes:

I was “ON A BOAT LIKE LEO”

We were heading back to camp near dark when we found a boat full of seamen that were stranded (The ignition cylinder had broken on their craft and they couldn’t get it started) so we towed them all the way up river against the current to fisher’s (whilst partying the entire way)

The girls started drinking more to fight the cold…things started getting rowdy:

When a couple of Apache Indians were sighted on the horizon (Jon and I climbed a random cliff in order to jump off it, unbeknown to us it was covered in extremely sharp volcanic rock! This led to a strange walk known as “The Apache Dance”)

John had to rearrange a few things after the jump

Kevin and his crew rolled in to camp around midnite on friday, and we hit the sack. Got up the next morning to a beautiful day!

And decided to get some riding in. Clear Lake was pretty empty, so we did some decent wakesurfing.

This pic is out of order, but god damn what a beautiful sunset we had that night!

There was a few random sightings of “2 Dudes 1 Wave Runner”

And we spent the afternoon doing what we do best, partying!

And enjoying the beautiful ladies relaxing in the sun!

We then discovered “Vagina Rock” and a few brave souls decided to make the trek up to it to see what was inside. Little did Hecker know that a swarm of bees awaited him and stung his ear pretty badly!

We learned a lot about teamwork:

And Kelli showed up an entire group of dudes by scaling a 50 foot cliff in 2 seconds and jumping off of it in front of them!

We had some lunch and some liquid courage

Before deciding that we were as brave as Kelli, and climbing the rock ourselves, bringing a tow rope along with us to measure how high it really was:

Everyone survived, and we headed back in toward evening so we werent stuck pulling the boat out after dark again. Ran into a few technical difficulties with the wave runners, so Eric and I enjoyed a nice sunset tow whilst drinking some Ice cold CL’s.

We ended Sat night with a lot of drinking, eating, and laughing, with Grillmaster Kel grilling up some awesome pollo and brats!

I have to say this trip produced some of the most awesome quotes I’ve ever heard. There were so many ridiculous and inappropriate things said it’s hard to keep them all straight.
