I'm fairly athletic and had been wakeboarding about 15 times when it happened. I had gone wake to wake a few times in a row so I decided to cut as hard as I could and do a grab. I came down in the flats, the board was level but as I fell backwards, the ligament just snapped. Hard to explain what happened, but considering my lack of experience, I probably should not have been going balls out behind a Malibu Wakesetter with all the ballasts full and the wedge down. I am an intermediate boarder, who has been riding about 12 years. I am still recovering from the injury, but it was a clean break caused by coming down with my body off axis in relation to the board (and water). I will not be using boots anymore if I can find a pair of the sandle bindings. This is the first injury i have ever had boarding, though, so I still believe it is a safe sport, comparatively speaking. Hope this helps. I broke my fibula while trying to do an “air raley”. Later that day when he blew his nose the area around one eye puffed up with subcutaneous air. He received antibiotics and will see an ENT in 10 days. Her feet (size 5) remained in the boots and she managed to get them out, though she knew her leg was broken. She is about 35 yrs old, about 5'2" and weighs about 120 lbs. She was life-flighted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonvile, Florida, where they inserted a steel rod into the bone(s) the following day (yesterday).
